Art / Music - Art has always been a big part of my life. As a young child I would often choose to draw in class instead of studying. I can recall designing guitars as early as the 9th grade. Inspired by the band KISS, I got my first guitar at the age of 14. Determined to be a "Rock Star", I modeled my playing style after EVH, and other 80's guitarists. I played in numerous bands through my 20's, but thankfully, I never reached that "Rock Star" status. Now, I use my musical abilities by serving in my local church.

Home / Family - In 1988 I married my high school sweetheart. After 25+ years of marrige, we are more committed than ever. In 1994 our daughter was born. That same year we built our first house.

In 2002 I purchased a laser engraver, and re-opened "West Signs". I soon began to experiment  with inlay ideas on the laser. Soon, sign work gave way to guitar inlay, repair, and eventually, full fledged luthiery. This led to the purchase of my first CNC in 2008. In 2012 I built my first CNC specifically designed for luthiery.

Luthiery - I built my first guitar in 2005. By then, West Signs was offering custom inlay & trussrod covers to a list of clients including: FMIC, Learn Guitars, Jackson/Charvel, Hembry Guitars, Sully Guitars, Oktober Guitars, and others. After the addition of the CNC in 2008, I quickly began "ghost building" for other luthiers.

Teaching Luthiery - I started teaching luthiery to individuals, and small groups in 2010. I've found it to be both challenging, and rewarding. I enjoy seeing the excitement students have when they see their guitar come to life. I have formed lasting friendships with several students. I normally have at least 3 students at all times.

Parable Guitars - Parable Guitars was officially born in 2006. It is the culmination of: my love of guitars, artistic ability, vocational training, and my commitment to Christ. I am thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to do what I love. Solomon said it best: Ecc 3:22 - So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work. That is why we are here! No one will bring us back from death to enjoy life after we die.

About: Doug West

Work / Vocation- I have held several jobs since entering the workforce at 14. Each job has contributed in some way to what I do today. In 1989, after purchasing my first computer, I opened a sign shop in my garage. "West Graphics" offered pinstriping, custom paint, and vinyl sign lettering. In 1996 I put the business on hold, and went back to school to study manufacturing engineering. Soon after, I took a job as a CNC machinist.
